Local Mobile Phone Manufacturing Declines Sharply in April 2026

Pakistan’s local mobile phone manufacturing and assembly sector recorded a significant decline in April 2026, with production falling by 35 percent compared to the previous month, according to data released by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA).

The data, compiled by Topline Research, showed that local manufacturers and assemblers produced 1.81 million mobile phones in April, down from 2.79 million units recorded in March. This represents a decrease of nearly one million devices during the month.

Despite the decline, locally assembled phones continued to dominate the Pakistani market. Domestic production accounted for 83 percent of total mobile phone availability in April, compared to 89 percent in March.

Meanwhile, mobile phone imports slightly increased during the month. Imported handset volumes reached 0.37 million units in April, up 6 percent from 0.35 million units in March.

During the first four months of 2026, local manufacturers and assemblers produced a total of 9.17 million mobile phones, while imports stood at 1.59 million units. Overall mobile phone availability during this period reached 10.76 million units, with locally assembled devices making up around 85 percent of the market.

The report also showed that total mobile phone availability in April dropped to 2.18 million units, reflecting a 34 percent decline from 3.14 million units recorded in March, indicating slower overall market activity.

A year-on-year comparison was not available because PTA had released April and May 2025 data in combined form, making direct monthly comparisons difficult.
