Lukáš Krpálek Begins New LA28 Olympic Journey, Says Retirement Is Not on His Mind
Double Olympic judo champion Lukáš Krpálek has confirmed that he is not ready to retire and has begun his preparation for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
Speaking ahead of the Judo Grand Slam in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia (19–21 June), Krpálek said that his career is still ongoing as he aims to compete for a fifth Olympic appearance.
The event marks the beginning of the LA28 Olympic qualification cycle, where athletes can earn their first ranking points toward the next Olympic Games. More than 400 judoka are taking part in the competition.
Krpálek, one of the most successful judoka in history, has achieved major success across multiple weight categories, including Olympic, World, and European titles. His record places him among a rare group of athletes who have won top honors in different divisions.
Despite past successes, the Czech star is continuing his competitive journey after a disappointing experience at the Paris 2024 Olympics. He has expressed determination to remain active in the sport and pursue further achievements.
The Judo Grand Slam in Ulaanbaatar is expected to be a key early test for top athletes as they begin their qualification campaigns for LA28.
