Lutkenhaus confirms emergence at Oslo Diamond League

American teenager Cooper Lutkenhaus produced a standout performance at the Oslo Diamond League, winning the men’s 800 metres in a dramatic finish on Wednesday.

The 17-year-old held off Olympic champion Emmanuel Wanyonyi of Kenya in a tightly contested race, crossing the line in a personal-best time of 1:42.08, just ahead of Wanyonyi’s 1:42.09. Lutkenhaus sealed victory in the final metres after a strong finishing surge.

The result marked another major milestone in Lutkenhaus’s early career, following his recent Diamond League debut win in Stockholm, where he also impressed with a fast 800m performance.

Tebogo Wins 200m Race

In the men’s 200 metres, Olympic champion Letsile Tebogo delivered another strong showing, winning the race in 19.84 seconds.

Australian teenager Gout Gout made his Diamond League debut in the event and finished sixth with a time of 20.60 seconds, gaining valuable experience competing at the elite level.

Other Highlights in Oslo

Olympic champion Julien Alfred claimed victory in the women’s 100 metres, recording 10.76 seconds, although strong wind conditions meant the time was not eligible as a world-leading mark.

In the men’s 400m hurdles, Brazil’s Alison dos Santos defeated home favourite Karsten Warholm, winning in 46.89 seconds.

The Oslo Diamond League featured several competitive races as athletes continued their preparations for upcoming international athletics events.
