Metro Bus Catches Fire in Rawalpindi, Operations Temporarily Suspended
A metro bus caught fire near Sixth Road in Rawalpindi on Saturday while traveling from Islamabad, causing panic among passengers and temporarily disrupting metro bus operations.
According to rescue officials, the fire suddenly broke out while the bus was moving on the metro track. Passengers reportedly broke the bus windows to escape before emergency teams reached the scene.
Rescue personnel immediately launched firefighting and evacuation operations and safely shifted all passengers from the vehicle. Authorities confirmed that no loss of life was reported, although the bus was completely damaged in the incident. More than 12 rescue workers and four emergency vehicles took part in the operation.
Initial investigations suggest that the fire may have been caused by a short circuit, according to rescue officials. Following the incident, metro bus services on the affected route were suspended temporarily, while ticket counters at several stations were also closed.
Officials said operations would resume after the track is cleared and necessary safety inspections are completed. Meanwhile, many commuters faced delays and remained stranded at metro stations awaiting restoration of the service.
