NAB Orders Inquiry Into Rs. 8.5 Billion Advance Payments in Karachi BRT Yellow Line Project
The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has ordered an inquiry into Rs. 8.5 billion in advance payments made under the Karachi BRT Yellow Line Project, directing its Karachi office to examine whether the funds were disbursed and utilized in accordance with the project’s contractual and regulatory requirements.
According to reports, the NAB Chairman has instructed the Director General of NAB Karachi to review the advance payments made to contractors involved in the project and determine whether the payments were justified under the agreed terms.
As part of the inquiry, investigators will assess the work completed after the release of the advance payments, evaluate whether contractual obligations were fulfilled, and review the circumstances surrounding the disbursement of the funds.
The latest development follows the earlier arrest of former BRT Yellow Line Project Director Zamir Abbasi in Lahore in connection with allegations related to the advance payments made to contractors. The matter remains under investigation.
NAB’s inquiry will seek to establish whether the project complied with applicable financial and contractual procedures and whether any further action is required based on the findings.
