New Sinkhole Appears on Recently Constructed Road in Lahore’s Johar Town
A new sinkhole has appeared on a recently constructed main road in Lahore’s Johar Town, raising concerns among residents about the condition and quality of road infrastructure in the area.
The incident occurred while a large trailer was passing through the road. The vehicle’s right side became stuck after a section of the newly built road gave way.
Road Condition Raises Concerns
The affected road was completed recently, while the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) has also installed a major drainage system in the area.
Residents said the road had previously developed multiple damaged sections and craters, which they claimed had contributed to accidents and created difficulties for motorists.
The latest incident has prompted questions about the durability of the road and the quality of construction work carried out by the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) Engineering Wing.
Residents Call for Investigation
Several residents of Johar Town expressed concerns about traveling on roads in the area and urged the authorities to investigate the cause of the repeated road failures.
They also called for action against contractors or officials found responsible for any shortcomings in construction or quality control.
Some residents have urged Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to take notice of the situation and ensure that the project is properly examined.
LDA Announces Inquiry
LDA sources said the authority generally takes action against officials when complaints involve alleged illegal construction. However, they claimed that similar action has not always been taken in cases involving engineering-related problems.
An LDA spokesperson said an inquiry would be conducted into the latest incident.
The spokesperson added that appropriate action would be taken in accordance with the law after the investigation determines the cause of the road damage and identifies any responsibility.
