Pakistan Hockey League to Be Officially Launched on October 14

Pakistan Hockey League (PHL) is set to be formally launched in Islamabad on October 14, 2026, as part of efforts to revive and modernize hockey in the country.

The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) has introduced the league as a major initiative aimed at developing a stronger and more commercially sustainable structure for Pakistan’s national sport.

According to the PHF, league rights have been awarded to Mediacast after a competitive bidding process held earlier this year.

The inaugural season of the Pakistan Hockey League is planned for 2027. The competition is being developed with a structure inspired by international franchise-based hockey competitions, including the FIH Hockey Pro League and the Indian Hockey League.

The first edition is expected to include between six and eight franchise teams. The league will also feature international players alongside Pakistani hockey talent, giving local players an opportunity to train and compete with experienced professionals from other countries.

The PHF expects the league to attract investment from the private sector through franchise ownership and corporate sponsorships. This could create additional commercial opportunities for hockey while supporting marketing and promotion of the sport across Pakistan.

The proposed league is also intended to provide Pakistani hockey professionals with opportunities to work with international coaches, players and other experts. The experience gained through the competition could contribute to the development of the wider national hockey system.

In addition to on-field competition, the league is expected to generate opportunities in broadcasting, digital content, advertising, merchandising, hospitality, ticket sales and grassroots hockey programs.

The PHF has emphasized the need to build on Pakistan’s historic achievements in hockey while creating a modern and sustainable system for the future.

With its planned launch in 2026 and inaugural season in 2027, the Pakistan Hockey League is being positioned as an important step toward creating a more structured and commercially supported hockey ecosystem in the country.
