Pakistan Reports Around 7,500 Children Living With HIV
Pakistan continues to face challenges in addressing pediatric HIV, with health officials reporting that approximately 7,500 children are currently living with the virus and receiving medical care across the country.
According to available health data, children account for about 12.1% of the nearly 62,000 people undergoing HIV treatment nationwide.
Sindh Records the Highest Number of Cases
Sindh remains the province with the largest number of registered pediatric HIV cases. Around 4,200 children in the province have been enrolled in treatment programs, and health authorities continue to report new cases during 2026.
Punjab has the second-highest number of children receiving HIV treatment, followed by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. Cases have also been identified in the Islamabad Capital Territory, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan.
Importance of Early Treatment and Care
Medical experts emphasize that children living with HIV require continuous healthcare, regular monitoring and proper nutrition to support healthy growth and development.
Many affected children may face additional health challenges, including recurrent infections, poor weight gain and nutritional deficiencies. Early diagnosis, timely treatment and ongoing medical support can significantly improve health outcomes and quality of life.
HIV Treatment Services Across Pakistan
Health authorities are providing antiretroviral therapy (ART) through 99 treatment centers across Pakistan. These facilities offer treatment and follow-up care as part of ongoing efforts to improve access to healthcare for people living with HIV.
Experts continue to stress the importance of public awareness, early testing and access to medical services in helping reduce the impact of HIV and supporting affected children and their families.
