Pakistan Seeks Emergency LNG Cargo Amid Global Supply Uncertainty

Pakistan has moved to secure additional liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplies from the international spot market as global energy market conditions remain uncertain.

Pakistan LNG Limited (PLL), a state-owned procurement company, has issued a tender seeking one LNG cargo for delivery on June 6–7 at Port Qasim in Karachi.

According to the tender notice, the cargo volume is approximately 140,000 cubic meters and is required for near-term delivery, reflecting the immediate need for additional gas supplies.

The move comes as international energy markets continue to experience volatility, with concerns over shipping routes and regional supply flows affecting LNG availability and pricing.

Market observers note that LNG shipments to Pakistan from long-term suppliers have continued, but spot market conditions remain tight due to global demand and logistical uncertainties.

LNG plays an important role in Pakistan’s energy system, supporting electricity generation, industrial consumption, and residential gas demand, particularly during periods of seasonal pressure.

In recent years, Pakistan has increasingly relied on a combination of long-term contracts and spot purchases to manage fluctuations in domestic gas production and demand. However, spot procurement can be affected by global price movements and supply chain disruptions.

Authorities say the latest tender is part of ongoing efforts to ensure stable energy supplies and meet immediate demand requirements in the country’s power and gas sectors.
