Pakistan vs Australia ODI Series Heads to Decider in Lahore
The three-match ODI series between Pakistan and Australia is set for a decisive conclusion in Lahore, with both teams level at 1-1 heading into the final match at Gaddafi Stadium.
Australia secured a 41-run win in the second ODI to bounce back in the series, setting up a winner-takes-all encounter on Thursday. The result also provided the visitors with renewed confidence after a competitive performance on a challenging pitch.
In the second ODI, Australia posted 231-9, recovering from early setbacks through key contributions from Josh Inglis and Cameron Green. Their partnership helped stabilize the innings on a slow surface that offered assistance to both pace and spin.
Nathan Ellis delivered an impressive bowling performance, taking 4 wickets for 33 runs, as Pakistan were restricted to 190 despite resistance from Shadab Khan.
Pakistan struggled early in the chase, losing quick wickets and slipping under pressure. Although Shadab Khan played a fighting knock of 71 runs, the hosts were unable to recover and fell short of the target.
The performance marked Shadab’s first ODI half-century in several years, offering some positives for Pakistan despite ongoing discussions around his role in the team.
Pakistan head coach Mike Hesson said Shadab is now being used primarily as a batting all-rounder, with greater focus on his contributions in the middle order rather than as a frontline bowler. He added that the team is working with a combination of specialist bowlers and part-time options.
Young all-rounder Arafat Minhas also impressed in the series, continuing his strong start in international cricket with useful performances in both batting and bowling departments. The coaching staff has praised his quick adaptation to the international level.
Australia, meanwhile, highlighted their ability to adjust to difficult conditions, particularly on slower pitches where variation and patience proved key to success.
With the series level, both sides will now turn their attention to the final ODI in Lahore. Pakistan will be aiming for a more stable batting performance, while Australia will look to carry forward their momentum and adaptability.
