Pakistan’s Mobile Phone Imports Exceed Rs520 Billion in FY2025-26

Pakistan’s Mobile Phone Imports Exceed Rs520 Billion in FY2025-26

Pakistan imported mobile phones and related components worth more than Rs520 billion during the fiscal year 2025-26, according to data released by Pakistan Customs.

The detailed figures were issued to clarify reports regarding the country’s mobile phone imports and provide a breakdown of imported finished devices and components used for local assembly.

Smartphone Imports Increase

According to the data, imports of Completely Built Units (CBUs), which are fully assembled mobile phones, increased significantly during the fiscal year.

Smartphone imports rose from approximately 290,000 units in FY2024-25 to 1.04 million units in FY2025-26, reflecting strong consumer demand for devices that are not manufactured locally.

Pakistan Customs noted that industry feedback suggests a large share of these imports consisted of Apple iPhone and Google Pixel smartphones, which are currently not assembled in Pakistan.

Local Assembly Remains the Largest Share

Despite the increase in finished smartphone imports, the majority of the total import value was related to Completely Knocked Down (CKD) and Semi Knocked Down (SKD) kits used by local mobile phone manufacturers.

According to the data:

  • Pakistan imported approximately 32 million mobile phones during FY2025-26.
  • Around Rs420 billion, or nearly 80 percent of the total import value, consisted of CKD and SKD kits for local assembly.
  • Approximately Rs100 billion represented imports of fully assembled mobile phones (CBUs).

The figures indicate that local assembly continues to play a major role in Pakistan’s mobile phone industry.

Customs Revenue Increases

Pakistan Customs also reported higher tax collection from mobile phone imports during the fiscal year.

Duties and taxes collected increased from Rs89 billion in FY2024-25 to approximately Rs121 billion in FY2025-26**, representing an increase of more than 36 percent.

Officials said the rise in revenue reflects greater use of documented commercial import channels and improved tax compliance.

Official Imports Gain Popularity

According to Customs, commercially imported smartphones have become a more cost-effective option for many consumers compared with certain alternative registration methods.

Officials believe this trend has encouraged more imports through official channels, contributing to higher government revenue and supporting efforts to reduce informal trade in the mobile phone market.

The latest figures highlight continued consumer demand for smartphones while also showing the growing importance of local assembly and documented imports within Pakistan’s mobile technology sector.
