Pakistan’s Cueists Shine at Asian 6-Red and Team Snooker Championship
Pakistan’s top snooker players are making headlines at the ongoing Asian 6-Red and Team Snooker Championship in Sri Lanka. All three national representatives—Awaisullah Munir, Mohammad Asif, and Mohammad Sajjad—have successfully advanced to the pre-quarterfinals after strong performances in the group stage.
Awaisullah Stays Unbeaten in Group Stage
Defending champion Awaisullah Munir delivered an impressive performance throughout the group phase. He remained unbeaten, with the highlight being a crucial 4-2 victory over India’s Pushpender Singh. Although Singh took the opening frame, Awaisullah showed great composure to fight back. After the match was levelled at 2-2, the Pakistani cueist maintained his focus to win the final two frames and top his group.
Mohammad Asif Holds His Nerve
Veteran player Mohammad Asif, who boasts multiple international titles, had a mixed but ultimately successful day. He started strong with a dominant 4-0 win against Oman’s Abdullah Al Raisi. His second match, however, proved to be more challenging. In a tightly contested battle against Sri Lanka’s Irshath Thaha, Asif narrowly lost 4-3. Despite the loss, his earlier wins were enough to earn him a place in the knockout stage.
Road Ahead
With all three Pakistani players through to the pre-quarterfinals, fans will be hoping for continued success as the competition heats up. Their consistent performance on the international stage is a promising sign for the future of snooker in Pakistan.
