Atlético Madrid Beat Osasuna as Real Betis Secure Champions League Qualification
Atlético Madrid strengthened their hold on fourth place in La Liga with a 2-1 win over Osasuna on Tuesday, while Real Betis secured qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League with a victory over Elche.
Atlético opened the scoring through Ademola Lookman, who converted a penalty in the 15th minute after a handball incident. The team later doubled their lead when Alexander Sørloth scored with a close-range header midway through the second half.
Despite being reduced to 10 men after a red card for Marcos Llorente, Atlético managed to hold on for the win, although Osasuna pulled one goal back in stoppage time through Kike Barja.
The result keeps Atlético in fourth place in La Liga, behind Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Villarreal.
In another key fixture, Real Betis defeated Elche 2-1 to confirm their place in the Champions League for next season. The result guarantees them a top-five finish and a return to Europe’s top competition for the first time since the 2005–06 season.
Betis manager Manuel Pellegrini praised his team’s consistency throughout the season, highlighting their resilience and ability to recover after setbacks.
The club has been in strong form in recent years, regularly qualifying for European competitions and reaching the UEFA Europa Conference League final last season.
Betis will next face Barcelona in their upcoming La Liga fixture as they prepare to finish the season on a strong note.
