PCB and CDA Plan Upgrades for Cricket Grounds in Islamabad

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has decided to collaborate with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to upgrade several cricket grounds across Islamabad as part of efforts to improve sports infrastructure in the capital.

Under the proposed arrangement, the PCB will assist in improving pitch quality, maintaining grounds, and enhancing facilities at key venues including Shalimar, Diamond, National, Bhutto, Banigala, and F-9 cricket grounds.

Officials clarified that all grounds will remain under CDA ownership and control. The PCB’s role will be limited to technical support and the organization of selected matches, including first-class and Grade II fixtures. Local players will continue to have access to these facilities throughout the year.

CDA representatives stated that a broader plan is also being developed to upgrade cricket academies and improve sports facilities across Islamabad. Input from former national cricketers will also be included in the planning process.

Authorities emphasized that public sports facilities will remain accessible and that no private individual will be allowed to charge unauthorized fees at CDA-managed grounds.

According to the plan, age-group cricket academies may be established through a structured process with regulated fees, while specific programs for women and youth cricket will be directly managed by CDA.

Officials also highlighted the importance of ensuring affordable access for club cricketers, while allowing regulated use of facilities for corporate and organized events through a transparent system.

The initiative is aimed at addressing long-standing concerns about the condition and management of public sports grounds in the city and improving opportunities for young athletes.
