Islamabad and Rawalpindi Experience Season’s Highest Temperature at 44°C

Islamabad and Rawalpindi recorded the highest temperatures of the summer season on Wednesday as the mercury climbed to 44°C in both cities, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).

The extreme heat led many residents to remain indoors, while commercial activity in some markets slowed down during peak daytime hours. Health experts advised the public to take precautions, stay hydrated, and avoid unnecessary exposure to direct sunlight.

In some areas of Rawalpindi and its cantonment zones, water shortages were also reported amid the ongoing heatwave.

A PMD spokesperson said that temperatures are expected to gradually decrease over the next two to three days, with the possibility of rain later in the week.

Officials explained that the current weather conditions are part of the pre-monsoon pattern affecting the Potohar region. They added that a seasonal low-pressure system over parts of Balochistan, along with an approaching westerly wave and moisture from the Arabian Sea, is influencing the weather across northern areas.

The weather department has forecast mainly hot and dry conditions across most parts of the country, while very hot weather is expected in plain regions. However, isolated windstorms and rain-thunderstorms are likely in some northern and northeastern areas, including parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, Islamabad, and upper Punjab during evening and nighttime hours.
