Petrol Price Could Reach Rs. 1,000 Per Litre if Supply Shortage Develops

Federal Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik has warned that petrol prices in Pakistan could rise significantly if the country faces a shortage of fuel supplies.

Speaking to the media in Lahore, the minister said there is currently no petrol shortage in the country. However, he cautioned that a supply shortage could put further pressure on petrol prices.

Ali Pervaiz Malik said international oil prices have increased substantially, particularly in Europe and the United States. According to the minister, global oil prices have risen by around 80 percent, while Pakistan has so far passed on only about half of this increase to consumers.

The minister’s remarks come amid growing concerns over international fuel supply and shipping disruptions that could affect petroleum prices in Pakistan.

Government Plans to Ensure Gas Supply

The petroleum minister also said the government is preparing to ensure adequate gas supplies during the upcoming winter season.

He said the government would take necessary steps to avoid a gas shortage, even if this requires spending significantly more on imports. He indicated that gas import costs could reach $100 million compared with the $3 million initially planned.

Ali Pervaiz Malik further revealed that fuel-related tokens worth Rs. 180 million were issued in a single day on Friday.

Oil Exploration Efforts Underway

The minister said work has also begun on oil wells, with the government expecting potential oil discoveries by October.

Commenting on political criticism, Ali Pervaiz Malik urged stakeholders not to politicize difficulties faced by the public.

He also said the government would not allow anyone to march on Islamabad.
