Punjab Announces E-Bike Scheme for Women Students with Easy Monthly Installments

Punjab Announces E-Bike Scheme for Women Students with Easy Monthly Installments

The Punjab government has introduced additional financial support for women students under its electric bike (e-bike) scheme, making it easier for eligible students to own an electric motorcycle.

The announcement was made during a meeting of the Transport and Mass Transit Department chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz as part of the province’s efforts to promote environmentally friendly transportation.

Under the revised scheme, the Punjab government will cover the down payment and registration fee for women students. Beneficiaries will only be required to pay an interest-free monthly installment of Rs. 2,100 to receive an e-bike.

Officials said the initiative is intended to reduce the initial financial burden on students and improve access to affordable transportation for women pursuing higher education.

The chief minister also approved the expansion of the provincial e-bike program, under which 100,000 electric bikes are planned to be distributed among students over the next year.

As part of the scheme, the government will provide a subsidy of Rs. 70,000 per e-bike, helping make electric vehicles more affordable while supporting the province’s broader clean transportation goals.

The expanded program is expected to improve student mobility, encourage the use of electric vehicles, and contribute to reducing transport-related emissions across Punjab.
