Punjab Extends Cinema Operating Hours Under Revised Business Timings
The Punjab government has announced revised business timings, allowing cinemas across the province to remain open until 11 p.m. as part of updated operating-hour regulations.
Under the new framework, cinemas, restaurants, cafés, and similar entertainment and dining establishments will now be permitted to operate until 11 p.m., providing extended hours for evening audiences.
Previously, cinemas were required to close earlier under provincial efficiency measures, which limited evening screenings in several locations, particularly those situated in shopping malls and commercial centers.
The adjustment follows feedback from industry stakeholders who highlighted the impact of reduced operating hours on cinema attendance and film revenue, especially during peak viewing periods such as weekends and new releases.
According to officials, the revised timings aim to balance energy and resource management with economic activity and public convenience.
In addition to cinemas, the updated schedule allows shopping malls, markets, and bazaars to remain open until 9 p.m., while marriage halls and event venues can operate until 10 p.m.
Certain sectors, including healthcare services, fuel stations, pharmacies, bakeries, and essential service providers, remain exempt from timing restrictions.
Industry representatives have welcomed the decision, noting that extended evening hours are expected to improve accessibility for working families and support business activity in the entertainment and hospitality sectors.
The new timings are part of broader efforts by the provincial government to streamline commercial operations while maintaining efficient urban management.
