Punjab Orders Completion of 82 Roads by September 7
Punjab’s Communications and Works Department has set a September 7 deadline for completing work on 82 additional roads under the Local Road Program.
Provincial Minister for Communication and Works Malik Sohaib Ahmad Bharth issued the instructions during a meeting focused on reviewing progress across different regions of the province.
The meeting was attended by Communications and Works Secretary Raja Jahangir Anwar, the Special Secretary, Additional Secretaries and other senior officials. Superintending Engineers and Executive Engineers also joined the meeting online.
Progress Reviewed Across Three Regions
Officials provided an update on the Local Road Program in the North, Central and South regions of Punjab.
The meeting also reviewed finishing work on roads that have already been completed, including the installation of signboards, lane markings and beautification measures.
Bharth directed Chief Engineers to ensure that 26 roads in the South, 33 in the North and 23 in the Central region are completed by September 7.
He also instructed the department to fill vacant positions in field formations without delay to improve project monitoring and implementation.
Road Shoulders to Be Inspected
The minister ordered officials to inspect the shoulders of roads constructed since 2024.
Any damaged portions identified during the inspections are to be repaired within 10 days. Officials were also instructed to conduct daily field visits to monitor road conditions and assess the progress of ongoing projects.
Post-Monsoon Repairs Ordered
Bharth directed the Communications and Works Department to continue repair and maintenance activities after the monsoon season.
The move is aimed at addressing damage caused by seasonal weather and improving the long-term condition of Punjab’s road network.
The minister stressed the need for regular monitoring and timely completion of development work to ensure that road projects deliver lasting benefits to commuters across the province.
