Punjab Plans Mega Sports Events Across Schools From October

The Punjab government is set to organize major sports competitions in schools across the province from October to December, aiming to encourage student participation and identify promising young athletes.
Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat approved the plan during a meeting of the Education Department to review the province’s sports action plan.
Sports Committees Established in 35,000 Schools
According to officials, sports committees have now been established in around 35,000 schools across Punjab.
The Education Department has also supplied sports equipment to 450 schools to support students and increase opportunities for participation in different sporting activities.
Competitions at Multiple Levels
Under the new plan, students from public schools will compete in various sports at four levels:
- Tehsil
- District
- Division
- Provincial
The government has also announced prize money for the competitions, with awards of Rs. 500,000, Rs. 300,000 and Rs. 100,000 at the respective competition levels.
The education minister directed officials to ensure that separate prize money is allocated for male and female students.
Focus on Young Sporting Talent
The initiative is also intended to help identify students with exceptional sporting abilities.
Rana Sikandar Hayat directed the Education Department to provide additional support to talented students and help them access opportunities at the international level.
The government plans to encourage promising athletes to continue developing their skills and pursue sports as a potential career.
The school sports programme is expected to run across Punjab between October and December, giving students from different areas an opportunity to participate in organized competitions.
