Punjab to Introduce Electric Bike Rental Service in Lahore
The Punjab government has announced plans to launch an electric bike rental service in Lahore as part of its efforts to promote clean, affordable, and modern urban transport.
The initiative aims to support environmentally friendly travel options while also improving mobility in one of the country’s busiest cities.
10,000 Electric Bikes in First Phase
According to official sources, the project will be rolled out in phases, with an initial deployment of around 10,000 electric bikes across Lahore.
To support the service, approximately 300 docking and charging stations will be established at key locations throughout the city.
Integration with Urban Transport System
The Punjab Housing Authority will provide land for the installation of docking stations. These stations are planned near residential areas, commercial centers, and public transport hubs to improve connectivity and convenience for users.
The service will be developed in collaboration with multiple departments, including the Lahore Parking Company (LePark), the Transport Department, and the Punjab Safe Cities Authority.
Focus on Environment and Traffic Reduction
Officials said the project is expected to reduce carbon emissions significantly each year, contributing to efforts to control air pollution and smog in Lahore.
The initiative is also aimed at reducing traffic congestion and encouraging the use of low-cost, energy-efficient transport alternatives.
Easy Access Through Mobile App
Authorities confirmed that citizens will be able to rent electric bikes through a dedicated mobile application, making the service accessible for students, office workers, and daily commuters.
Punjab Housing Secretary Noorul Amin Mengal stated that the project reflects the government’s commitment to modern urban planning and environmental sustainability, while also helping reduce fuel costs for the public.
