PM Shehbaz Sharif Highlights Key Role of Overseas Pakistanis in Economic Growth
ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has acknowledged the invaluable contribution of overseas Pakistanis in strengthening the country’s economy, particularly through remittances that support both families and national development.
In a message issued on the International Day of Family Remittances, observed on Monday, the Prime Minister said Pakistan proudly joins the global community in recognizing the vital role of migrant workers whose financial contributions drive progress and prosperity in their home countries.
He emphasized that remittances sent by overseas Pakistanis remain a cornerstone of Pakistan’s economic strength and resilience. “These contributions go beyond monetary value—they reflect deep family bonds, national loyalty, and a commitment to the country’s future,” he said.
The Prime Minister expressed gratitude to the global Pakistani diaspora, describing their financial support as a “powerful pillar” of economic stability. He also underscored the emotional and generational ties that these remittances represent.
In highlighting the government’s broader economic strategy, Prime Minister Sharif reaffirmed ongoing efforts to attract foreign direct investment and diversify the country’s export portfolio. These initiatives, he said, aim to ensure long-term economic sustainability and resilience.
Notably, he shared that during the current fiscal year, remittances from overseas Pakistanis have reached a record high of $34.9 billion, representing a 28.8% increase. He noted that this growth reflects trust in national institutions and strengthens the government’s commitment to accelerating economic recovery.
The Prime Minister concluded his message by reaffirming the government’s dedication to supporting overseas Pakistanis and recognizing their essential role in Pakistan’s economic journey.
