Scottie Scheffler Back in Contention After Strong Round at U.S. Open

Scottie Scheffler produced a composed and steady performance in the second round of the U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills, keeping himself firmly in contention heading into the weekend.

The four-time major champion carded a 2-under-par 68 on Friday, recovering well after a challenging start to the tournament. His overall score moved him to even par, placing him tied for 11th and seven shots behind the leader with two rounds remaining.

Scheffler’s round reflected his trademark style—patient, controlled, and efficient—as he bounced back strongly after an over-par opening stretch in difficult conditions.

The American golfer found rhythm early in his second round, including a birdie on the 10th hole, helping him build momentum after a more testing first day.

With this performance, Scheffler ended a run of U.S. Open rounds without breaking par and re-established himself as a serious contender for the title.

If he goes on to win the championship on Sunday, which also happens to be his 30th birthday, he would achieve another major milestone in his career and move closer to completing the career Grand Slam.

When asked about course conditions for the remainder of the tournament, Scheffler remained focused, saying he simply adapts to whatever setup is presented and concentrates on his own game.

The U.S. Open continues with two rounds remaining as the world’s top players compete for one of golf’s most prestigious titles.
