Spain delivered another impressive performance at the FIFA World Cup, defeating Austria 3-0 on Thursday to secure a place in the Round of 16.

A brace from Mikel Oyarzabal and a second-half header by Pedro Porro sealed a comfortable victory as the European champions dominated possession and created chances throughout the match.

Spain gradually took control of the contest, applying consistent pressure on Austria’s defense. Their first breakthrough came in the 36th minute when Pedri picked out Marc Cucurella on the left. Cucurella’s accurate cross found Oyarzabal, who calmly finished to give Spain a deserved lead.

Earlier in the half, Spain had a goal ruled out after a VAR review, while goalkeeper Alexander Schlager produced several important saves to keep Austria in the game.

Spain continued to dictate play after the break and doubled their advantage in the 66th minute. Alex Baena delivered a well-placed cross that Pedro Porro headed into the net for his first international goal.

Austria tried to respond by introducing fresh attacking options, but Spain remained in control and limited their opponents’ opportunities.

The Spanish side continued creating chances, with Lamine Yamal and Marc Cucurella causing problems down the flanks. Austria’s defense prevented the scoreline from becoming even larger with several timely interventions.

Oyarzabal completed his brace in the 89th minute when Cucurella delivered another precise cross into the penalty area. The forward finished confidently to wrap up an impressive 3-0 victory.

The result sends Spain into the FIFA World Cup Round of 16, where they will face Portugal in a highly anticipated knockout clash on Monday.
