Jack Dorsey Launches Bitchat: A Private, Offline Messaging App Powered by Bluetooth
Jack Dorsey, co-founder of Twitter, has unveiled Bitchat—a new, peer-to-peer messaging app that works entirely without internet access. The app operates over Bluetooth mesh networks, allowing users to chat securely and privately even without mobile data or Wi-Fi.
📱 Available now in beta through Apple’s TestFlight, Bitchat is being described as an experimental project aimed at exploring decentralized communication, mesh networking, and end-to-end encryption.
Messaging Without Internet or Phone Numbers
Unlike traditional messaging apps like WhatsApp or Messenger, which rely on cloud servers and internet connectivity, Bitchat allows users to send messages directly through nearby devices using Bluetooth.

Bitchat draws inspiration from communication tools used during the 2019 Hong Kong protests, which allowed secure communication in the absence of reliable internet. It aligns with Dorsey’s broader vision of decentralized platforms, also reflected in his work with Bluesky and Damus.
