Train Services Disrupted After Freight Train Derails Near Matiari
Train operations from Karachi have been temporarily disrupted after several wagons of a freight train derailed near Wahab Shah Railway Station in Matiari district, affecting the main railway line in Sindh.
According to Pakistan Railways officials, the incident blocked both the up and down tracks, leading to delays and temporary suspension of train services on the route.
Freight Train Derailment
Officials said the freight train, carrying coal, was traveling from Karachi to Yousafwala when 17 wagons derailed near Wahab Shah Railway Station.
No casualties were reported in the incident.
The derailment caused damage to multiple sections of the railway track, requiring repair work before train operations can fully resume.
Restoration Work Underway
Pakistan Railways has deployed relief trains, engineering teams, and rescue personnel to the site.
The teams are working to:
- Remove the derailed wagons.
- Repair damaged railway tracks.
- Restore normal operations on both railway lines.
Officials estimate that restoration work may take several hours, depending on the extent of the track damage.
Passenger Trains Affected
The disruption has impacted several passenger trains across Sindh.
According to railway officials:
- Karakoram Express was stopped at Hyderabad.
- Allama Iqbal Express was halted at Kotri.
- Pakistan Express was stopped at Landhi.
- Tezgam Express remained at Drigh Road.
- Millat Express and Fareed Express were held at Karachi Cantt Station.
Several other trains also experienced delays at stations including Tando Adam, Hyderabad, Karachi, and Rohri.

Pakistan Railways continues restoration work and is monitoring the situation closely.
