Trump Links Saudi Civil Nuclear Deal to Israel Recognition
US President Donald Trump has said that Saudi Arabia would need to formally recognize Israel by joining the Abraham Accords before the United States moves forward with a proposed civilian nuclear cooperation agreement.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump stated that the proposed agreement would focus on peaceful civilian nuclear cooperation and would not include uranium enrichment.
His comments came shortly after the United States announced plans for a civil nuclear cooperation agreement with Saudi Arabia.
Saudi Arabia has not publicly responded to Trump’s latest remarks.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said the administration has consistently communicated that participation in the Abraham Accords is a key condition for advancing the proposed agreement.
According to the US Department of Energy, the planned cooperation package relates to peaceful nuclear activities and will be submitted to the US Congress for review under the required legislative process.
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has also acknowledged the proposed US-Saudi civilian nuclear cooperation initiative and said it is aware of preparations related to international safeguards and verification measures.
The proposed agreement remains subject to the necessary review and approval procedures before any final implementation.
