UHS Approves Punjab’s First PhD Nursing Program to Strengthen Healthcare Education
The University of Health Sciences (UHS) has approved the launch of Punjab’s first-ever PhD Nursing program, marking an important step in advancing medical education and research in the province.
According to details, the decision was taken by the university’s Specialty Advisory Committee, which finalized the curriculum for the new doctoral program in nursing.
Officials confirmed that 20 seats have been allocated for the inaugural batch. To maintain academic standards, candidates will be required to secure at least 75% marks in the entry test to qualify for admission.
UHS Vice Chancellor Professor Ahsan Waheed Rathore said the program is designed to develop highly skilled nursing professionals and researchers who can contribute to improving healthcare systems in Pakistan.
He added that the initiative is also aimed at addressing the shortage of qualified nursing faculty in medical institutions across the country.
The university is expected to issue the official admission advertisement in the first week of July.
Experts believe that introducing PhD-level education in nursing will help improve clinical standards, strengthen research capacity, and promote evidence-based practices in hospitals and healthcare facilities across Punjab.
