Ukraine Reports Drone Strikes on Russian Oil Refineries as Conflict Continues
KYIV: Ukraine said it carried out overnight drone strikes targeting two oil refineries in Russia, as both countries continue exchanging long-range attacks amid the ongoing conflict.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the operations targeted energy facilities in Russia’s Krasnodar and Yaroslavl regions, describing them as part of efforts to disrupt infrastructure supporting Russia’s military operations.
According to Ukrainian officials, the targeted facilities are located hundreds of kilometers from the Ukrainian border.
Russian Authorities Report Damage
Officials in Russia’s Krasnodar region confirmed that a strike caused a fire at an oil refinery. Local authorities also reported casualties in a nearby village, while emergency services responded to contain the incident.
Authorities in the Yaroslavl region introduced temporary traffic restrictions on some routes following the reported drone activity.
The latest strikes come after similar attacks on Russian energy infrastructure in recent weeks.
Energy Infrastructure Remains a Key Target
Since the conflict began, energy facilities and logistics networks have increasingly become targets for both sides.
Ukraine says the strikes are intended to reduce Russia’s military supply capabilities, while Russian officials have condemned the attacks and continued their own military operations.
The repeated attacks have affected fuel distribution and transportation in several regions, according to official statements and local reports.
Putin Acknowledges Ongoing Challenges
Speaking at a meeting of Russia’s ruling United Russia party ahead of parliamentary elections, President Vladimir Putin said the country is experiencing “a difficult period.”
He stated that Russia would continue efforts to strengthen national security and protect critical infrastructure while maintaining military operations.
Military Activity Continues
Ukraine also reported missile alerts in Kyiv during the early hours of Sunday, with local authorities urging residents to remain in shelters while air defense systems responded.
Meanwhile, Russian officials said their forces had made further advances in parts of southeastern Ukraine, while both sides continued reporting military operations in several regions.
The conflict remains active across multiple fronts, with attacks on infrastructure and military positions continuing as diplomatic efforts to end the fighting have yet to produce a lasting ceasefire.
