University of Peshawar Retired Employees Call for KP Higher Education Commission
The University of Peshawar Retired Employees Council has called for practical measures to establish a Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Higher Education Commission (KP HEC), saying the proposed body could help strengthen higher education governance in the province.
The demand was raised during a general body meeting of the council held on Monday. The meeting was chaired by former University of Peshawar Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Ihsan Ali and attended by former vice-chancellors, retired teachers, and other former university employees.
Participants discussed a range of matters concerning retired employees, particularly administrative and financial issues.
Council Constitution Under Preparation
Members were informed that a committee has been established to prepare a constitution for the University of Peshawar Retired Employees Council.
The draft constitution will be presented at the council’s next meeting for consideration and approval.
The participants also discussed the annual service certificate requirement for retired employees. They urged the university administration to coordinate with relevant authorities and NADRA to explore arrangements that could reduce the need for retirees to submit certificates repeatedly.
Pension Increase Welcomed
The council appreciated the efforts of the university’s vice-chancellor, pro-vice-chancellor, registrar, and other senior officials in addressing issues faced by retired employees.
Members also welcomed the administration’s decision to increase pensions by 7 percent and introduce additional welfare measures for retired staff.
The council further requested that the matter concerning the DRC, which has already received approval from the competent authority, be processed promptly so that eligible retirees can receive their outstanding dues without unnecessary delays.
Annual Dinner Planned
The council also decided to organize its annual dinner on September 25 at the Teachers Community Centre.
Former vice-chancellors, university officials, teachers, and other relevant personalities are expected to attend the event.
The meeting concluded with a call for continued coordination between the university administration and retired employees to address pending administrative, financial, and welfare-related matters.
