Sports Correspondent: Imran Sohail

USA star Ashton Lansdell delivered one of the most impressive offensive performances in WBSC Women’s Baseball World Cup history, earning Most Outstanding Player (MOP) honors after helping her team complete an unbeaten run at the Group Rockford 2026 tournament.

The 25-year-old was a standout performer throughout the competition, playing a key role in USA’s success with consistent batting and strong all-around contributions.

Remarkable Offensive Statistics

Across five games, Lansdell recorded exceptional numbers at the plate, finishing with:

  • 11 hits in 13 at-bats
  • .846 batting average
  • .889 on-base percentage
  • Two doubles
  • Two home runs
  • Four walks
  • No strikeouts
  • 1.462 slugging percentage
  • 2.351 OPS (On-base Plus Slugging)

Her outstanding offensive production made her one of the tournament’s top performers and earned unanimous recognition from the WBSC Technical Commission.

Staying Focused Throughout the Tournament

Speaking after receiving the award, Lansdell credited her preparation and confidence rather than any special approach.

She said her focus was on trusting her training, staying within her game, and relying on the support of her teammates and coaches throughout the tournament.

Adapting to a New Position

In addition to her batting success, Lansdell also took on a new challenge by playing in the outfield, despite primarily featuring as an infielder in recent seasons.

She explained that adapting to an unfamiliar position required confidence and a willingness to embrace new responsibilities, adding that the experience helped her grow as a player during the tournament.

USA Advances With Unbeaten Record

Ranked No. 2 in the world, the United States finished the Group Rockford stage undefeated, combining productive batting, effective pitching, and strong defensive performances.

Lansdell said the team remained focused on its preparation throughout the competition and believed in its ability regardless of expectations.

Eyes on the WBSC Women’s Baseball World Cup Finals 2027

Following their successful campaign in Rockford, Team USA has now secured its place in the WBSC Women’s Baseball World Cup Finals 2027.

The team will once again aim to challenge Japan, which has won the previous seven Women’s Baseball World Cup titles, including the championship victory over the United States in the 2024 finals.

Lansdell said the team is motivated to continue improving and is focused on competing for the world title in 2027. She emphasized that the players will continue relying on their preparation, coaching staff, teammates, and supporters as they work toward their championship goal.

With her outstanding tournament performance, Lansdell has established herself as one of the leading players to watch heading into the next edition of the Women’s Baseball World Cup.
