KINGSTON: The 2026 Jamaican Athletics Championships are underway at the National Stadium, with the country’s top athletes competing for national titles from June 18 to 21.

The event features leading Jamaican sprinters and field athletes, including Olympic champions Shericka Jackson and Elaine Thompson-Herah, as well as world 100m champion Oblique Seville.

The championships serve as a key platform for selecting and evaluating athletes ahead of major international competitions.

Day 1 highlights

On the opening day, Amiel Thomas won the men’s 5000m in 16:12.35, while Ackelia Smith claimed the women’s long jump title with a best effort of 6.81m. In the women’s high jump, Lamara Distin secured first place with a clearance of 1.86m.

Schedule overview

Day 2 – June 19
Events include the 1500m races, discus throw, and the 100m heats and finals for both men and women, along with decathlon events.

Day 3 – June 20
The schedule features the triple jump, shot put, 800m finals, 400m hurdles final, and sprint events including 200m heats and semifinals.

Day 4 – June 21
The final day includes hammer throw, javelin, 400m finals, hurdles finals, and the concluding 200m races.

The full competition schedule covers track and field events across all four days, with finals staged in the evening sessions.
