Phil Salt’s half-century and Fazalhaq Farooqi’s three-wicket haul led Manchester Originals to a 12-run victory over London Spirit at Lord’s, marking their first win in The Hundred. Salt’s 58 off 41 balls set a target of 136, which the Originals defended successfully, thanks to Farooqi’s impressive 3 for 24.
The win ended London Spirit’s hopes of advancing to the knockout phase, as both teams remain at the bottom of the table. Farooqi’s early breakthroughs, dismissing Michael Pepper and Ollie Pope, along with a run-out by Salt, put Originals in control. Despite Keaton Jennings’ unbeaten 61 and a strong 96-run partnership with Shimron Hetmyer, Spirit fell short of the target.
Hetmyer contributed 44 before being caught by Salt, and Andre Russell’s quick dismissal sealed the game for Originals.
Salt’s knock, featuring four boundaries and two sixes, was the standout performance for the Originals, supported by Richard Gleeson and Olly Stone, who each took two wickets. Reflecting on the win, Salt expressed satisfaction with the team’s newfound role as “party spoilers,” given their challenging journey in the competition so far.
