Punjab Approves Huge Subsidy Package for Orange Line Train

Punjab Govt Extends Rs. 7 Billion Subsidy to Keep Orange Line Metro Affordable

In a move to support affordable public transport, the Punjab government has approved a Rs. 7 billion subsidy for the Orange Line Metro Train, ensuring commuters continue to benefit from low-cost, reliable travel in Lahore.

🚆 Fares to Remain Unchanged

The Finance Department has officially released the funds to cover both the operational costs and subsidy requirements of the Orange Line service. This decision means there will be no increase in ticket prices, allowing thousands of daily riders to continue using the metro without added financial pressure.

The Orange Line remains one of the most used urban transport services in the city, providing efficient and affordable mobility for students, workers, and families alike.

💬 Why the Subsidy Matters

Without government backing, fares would likely rise to cover operational expenses, potentially placing a burden on low-income households. The subsidy helps maintain the service as an accessible public utility, especially vital in the face of ongoing inflation and rising fuel costs.

🏥 Support for Healthcare Sector

In addition to the metro funding, the Punjab government has also released Rs. 1 billion to the Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education Department. This amount will go toward maintaining and expanding healthcare services across the province.

Government’s Commitment to Public Welfare

These recent funding decisions reflect the provincial government’s broader agenda of public welfare, focusing on accessible urban transport and improved healthcare. As inflation continues to impact household budgets, initiatives like these aim to ease the financial burden on citizens while supporting long-term infrastructure development.
