Postmaster Sentenced to 29 Years in Major Corruption Case in Rawalpindi

In a significant ruling, a Special Central Court in Rawalpindi has sentenced a former Postmaster, Hamid Jaleel, to 29 years of rigorous imprisonment in a high-profile corruption case. The court also imposed a fine of over Rs 2 million on the convict.

Additionally, the court ordered Jaleel to repay Rs 21.5 million to the Pakistan Post Department as financial compensation for the misappropriated funds.

The case originated in 2022 when the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA)’s Anti-Corruption Circle in Islamabad launched an inquiry into allegations of financial misconduct.

According to the FIA spokesperson, the accused was found guilty of making fraudulent entries amounting to over Rs 25.2 million in pension savings records during his tenure as Postmaster.

This verdict highlights the judiciary’s commitment to upholding accountability and transparency in public institutions, sending a strong message against corruption in government services.
