Punjab Government Offers Up to Rs. 100,000 for Switching to Electric Bikes
In a major push toward eco-friendly transport, the Punjab government has launched a new incentive program offering up to Rs. 100,000 for residents who switch from petrol motorcycles to electric bikes.
This initiative is part of the Chief Minister’s Green Credit Program and aims to reduce carbon emissions while promoting cleaner, more sustainable transportation across the province.
How to Qualify
Residents who purchase a new electric bike after December 2024 are eligible to apply for the green credit. To complete registration, applicants must provide:
-
Purchase date of the electric bike
-
Bike company and model
-
Registration number and chassis number
-
Copy of the registration book
-
Clear photographs of the vehicle
A program representative will visit in person to verify your details. After successful verification, you’ll receive an initial payment of Rs. 50,000.
Earn the Second Installment
The remaining Rs. 50,000 will be awarded after you log 6,000 kilometers within six months of registering your bike. Tracking is done through the official Green Credit mobile app, which must be connected to your vehicle.
Who Is Not Eligible?
Officials from the Punjab Environment Protection Agency (EPA) have clarified that retrofitted electric bikes do not qualify. Only brand-new electric motorcycles purchased and registered under the program are eligible for the financial benefit.
Program Goals
The program aims to convert:
-
2,000 petrol bikes
-
250 other vehicles
…to electric power this fiscal year—cutting an estimated 8,000 tonnes of carbon emissions annually. The broader goal is to make 30% of Punjab’s transport electric by 2030, reducing transport-related emissions by 20%.
