Punjab to Conduct Grade 8 Board Exams in Government Schools Only from Next Year
Lahore – August 8, 2025:
In a major policy shift, the Punjab School Education Department has announced that Grade 8 board examinations will be mandatory only for government schools starting from the next academic session.
According to a report by a private news channel, the move aims to enhance academic accountability and streamline the assessment process in public sector schools. Private schools, however, will have the option to participate in the board exams on a voluntary basis.
📝 Exams to be Held Under PECTAA Supervision
The upcoming examinations will be organized under the Punjab Education, Curriculum, Training and Assessment Authority (PECTAA). The body will oversee all aspects of exam preparation, administration, and monitoring.
A detailed implementation plan—including subject outlines, marks distribution, and the secure delivery of question papers—is expected to be released by the department within 20 days.
📅 Tentative Exam Timeline & Reward System
The Grade 8 exams are tentatively scheduled for February or March 2026, giving schools ample time to prepare.
In an effort to improve outcomes, the Punjab government is also planning to launch a performance-based reward system. Under this model:
-
Schools achieving strong results may be eligible for rewards and recognition.
-
Schools with poor performance could face administrative actions.
This initiative is seen as a strategic step toward improving educational standards across the province.
Stay tuned for updates as more details emerge in the coming weeks regarding the structure and execution of the new Grade 8 examination policy.
