They’re big boys, they know’: Razor addresses current 10s after Mo’unga deal

Beauden Barrett and Damian McKenzie Stay Confident as All Blacks Welcome Richie Mo’unga’s Return

New Zealand rugby fans have a reason to celebrate as Richie Mo’unga prepares to rejoin the All Blacks after signing a new contract with the Crusaders, the Super Rugby club where he won seven titles between 2017 and 2023. The deal also paves the way for a reunion with coach Ian Robertson, who recently took charge of the All Blacks.

Mo’unga’s move back to New Zealand comes after completing three seasons with Japan’s Toshiba Brave Lupus, followed by a few NPC games for Canterbury, which will restore his eligibility for the national team.

Coach Ian Robertson expressed excitement about Mo’unga’s return, saying, “New Zealand Rugby and fans are really pleased to have Richie back in our game, especially with the Rugby World Cup ahead. He has served our country for a long time, and we’re proud to retain such committed players.”

The All Blacks face The Rugby Championship opener against Argentina this weekend, with key players Beauden Barrett and Damian McKenzie available after recovering from injuries. Some pundits have speculated that Mo’unga’s return signals a lack of confidence in Barrett and McKenzie, but Robertson dismissed these concerns.

“No. They’re big boys, they know the game,” Robertson said. “The jersey is bigger than everyone. It’s always earned, and that’s what makes it exciting.”

Barrett, recently recovered from a fractured hand, and McKenzie are set to compete alongside Mo’unga, boosting New Zealand’s chances against the Pumas, who defeated them in last year’s championship opener.
