FedExCup No. 5 Sepp Straka Withdraws from BMW Championship, Will Still Play TOUR Championship
Sepp Straka, currently No. 5 in the FedExCup standings, has withdrawn from this week’s BMW Championship due to a private family matter. He will not participate in the second-to-last event of the FedExCup Playoffs but plans to compete at the TOUR Championship.
“For personal reasons, Sepp is unable to play this week. He intends to compete at the TOUR Championship but requests privacy as he attends to a family matter,” said Straka’s manager, Butler Melnyk.
Thanks to his strong FedExCup ranking, the 32-year-old Austrian will still qualify mathematically for the TOUR Championship. Since there are no alternates in the postseason, the BMW Championship will feature a 49-player field instead of 50.
Straka, a four-time PGA TOUR winner and currently ranked No. 11 in the Official World Golf Ranking, has enjoyed a successful 2025 season. His highlights include two wins — The American Express in January and the Truist Championship in May — along with 13 top-25 finishes. Last week, he placed tied for 17th at the FedEx St. Jude Championship.
This marks Straka’s fourth consecutive qualification for the TOUR Championship, with his best finish being tied for seventh in 2022.
Additionally, Straka sits sixth in the European Team’s Ryder Cup standings and aims to secure his spot for next month’s matches at Bethpage State Park. The top six in the European standings after the TOUR Championship automatically qualify for the Ryder Cup.
