Ohtani Homers Again, But Angels Edge Dodgers in Extra-Inning Thriller
In a dramatic 10-inning battle, the Los Angeles Angels staged a late rally to defeat the Los Angeles Dodgers 7-6 on Tuesday night, with Jo Adell delivering the game-winning walk-off single.
Shohei Ohtani, facing his former team, made headlines with his NL-leading 43rd home run, giving the Dodgers a 6-5 lead in the ninth inning. His solo shot marked his fourth consecutive game with a homer. Earlier in the sixth, Ohtani was part of a rare triple play, when Angels shortstop Zach Neto snagged his liner, stepped on second, and threw to first for the third out.
The defending World Series champion Dodgers, now tied with the San Diego Padres atop the NL West, suffered their third straight loss and have dropped all five meetings with the Angels this season.
How the Angels Won It
-
Ninth Inning Rally: Luis Rengifo singled and later scored on Nolan Schanuel’s sacrifice fly to tie the game. Dodgers reliever Ben Casparius struck out Taylor Ward with the bases loaded to keep the game even.
-
Tenth Inning Heroics: After Connor Brogdon’s scoreless top of the 10th, Christian Moore’s bunt moved Ward to third. Adell then chopped one over the drawn-in infield for the winning hit.
Taylor Ward hit his 28th home run and drove in two runs for the Angels, while Dalton Rushing went deep for the Dodgers. The NL West race now tightens, with Los Angeles and San Diego sharing the top spot for the first time since mid-June.
