Novak Djokovic’s Legacy as One of the Greatest Athletes of All Time
Novak Djokovic’s ability to continue competing at the highest level well into his late 30s is nothing short of remarkable, solidifying his place among the greatest athletes in history. The Serbian tennis legend, who has won virtually every major title and set numerous records, is showing no signs of slowing down and continues to relish the challenge of playing against younger, rising stars.
As he pursues the goal of becoming the oldest player to win a Grand Slam title, Djokovic faces tough competition from younger champions like Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz, who are poised to dominate the tennis scene in the coming decade. Despite his age, the 38-year-old has shown the ability to raise his game in major tournaments, though 2025 proved to be a challenging year. He hasn’t played since a decisive loss to Sinner at Wimbledon, opting to skip the Toronto and Cincinnati Masters 1000 events.
Djokovic’s Comeback at the US Open
Now, Djokovic is gearing up for a comeback at the US Open, starting August 24 in New York, where he will look to continue his quest for another Grand Slam victory. While his decision to skip the hardcourt tournaments earlier in the season may have raised some eyebrows, his vast experience and competitive spirit are undeniable. At Flushing Meadows, no one can afford to underestimate the legendary Serbian player.
Casper Ruud Pays Tribute to Djokovic’s Athleticism
In a recent interview, Norwegian tennis star Casper Ruud shared his admiration for Djokovic, calling him “the greatest athlete of any sport in history.” Ruud acknowledged Djokovic’s remarkable athleticism, noting that if you were to compare his physical capabilities to other sports icons like Tom Brady and LeBron James, Djokovic would excel in many physical tests.
“I don’t want to compare, because it’s difficult,” Ruud said, “but if you take Novak’s athleticism next to Brady, Brady’s the GOAT, don’t get me wrong, but I think Novak would crush him in most of the physical tests you can do. And then again, LeBron might be better in some. But for me, Novak is the greatest athlete that ever lived.”
As the 24-time Grand Slam champion continues to defy age and expectations, all eyes will be on him as he begins his journey at this year’s US Open, where he is also set to make his debut in mixed doubles.
