Pakistan and Iran Pledge Joint Action to Secure Borders and Fight Terrorism
August 27, 2025
Pakistan and Iran have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthen border security and combat terrorism through closer cooperation.
The assurance came during a telephonic conversation between Pakistan Army Chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, and Iranian Armed Forces Chief, Major General Abdolrahim Mousavi. According to Iranian state media IRNA, General Mousavi emphasized Tehran’s readiness to work with Islamabad to secure the shared border and eliminate terrorist threats.
He also expressed solidarity with Pakistan’s flood-affected communities, offering “any assistance within its power” to support the victims. The Iranian commander praised Pakistan’s backing during the recent 12-day conflict with Israel, highlighting ongoing cooperation between the two countries.
High-Level Engagements and Agreements
Earlier this month, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian visited Pakistan for a two-day official trip, accompanied by senior ministers and officials. During the visit, he held meetings with Pakistan’s leadership and addressed the Pakistan-Iran Business Forum in Islamabad.
The two countries signed 12 agreements and Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) covering areas including plant protection, joint use of the Mirjaveh-Taftan border gate, science and technology, ICT, culture, media, meteorology, maritime safety, judicial assistance, air services, product certification, and tourism cooperation for 2025–2027.
President Pezeshkian and Pakistan’s top leadership agreed that peace and prosperity in border regions depend on effective counterterrorism measures. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif underscored that terrorism cannot be tolerated in any form, noting that any attack in Iran is viewed as a threat to Pakistan as well. Both sides committed to taking concrete steps to eliminate terrorism and enhance security along their borders.
