Pakistan, Russia in Talks to Begin Local Insulin Production
ISLAMABAD – August 29, 2025 –
Pakistan is considering the local production of insulin in collaboration with Russia, following a high-level meeting organized by the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) on Thursday.
The meeting was chaired by Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Industries and Production, Haroon Akhtar Khan, and attended by Russian government representative Denis Nazarov, Secretary of Industries and Production Saif Anjum, and senior DRAP officials, according to a statement from the Ministry of Industries and Production.
Discussions focused on launching a joint Pakistan–Russia project to establish insulin manufacturing facilities within the country. Haroon Akhtar noted that the initiative would improve access to affordable life-saving medicine and strengthen bilateral ties between the two nations.
He further explained that the project would be executed in phases, beginning with technology transfer and moving toward large-scale production within the next three years. The collaboration is also expected to bring foreign investment, new business opportunities, and growth for Pakistan’s pharmaceutical industry.
The Special Assistant emphasized that strict compliance and transparency from all partner companies would be essential to ensure the success and sustainability of the insulin production venture.
