Hundreds waiting to be rescued in Ahmedpur Sial

Thousands Trapped in Chenab River Floods in Jhang, Rescue Operations Underway

JHANG: Hundreds of residents in Ahmedpur Sial tehsil remain stranded as floodwaters from the Chenab River continue to submerge villages, while rescue teams — including the Pakistan Army, Rescue 1122, and local administration — are working around the clock to evacuate people and livestock.

Villages Cut Off

Former nazim Intikhab Khan Sial said on Thursday that flood-hit villages including Samanduana, Chak Nori Shah, Namdar Sial, Chadhar, Mouza Waga, and Char Yari were still waiting for urgent evacuation.

Local politician Khan Nawazish alleged that the crisis worsened due to a “wrong breach” made in a road near Sultan Bahoo Bridge, which was also serving as a spur. He claimed that over 8,000 people are currently trapped in rising floodwaters.

He further warned that floodwaters from the Ravi River had merged with the overflowing Chenab in Samundana union council, making conditions more dangerous. He stressed that the floodwater should have been diverted back into the main river course to allow its safe passage downstream toward Khanewal and Multan.

Massive Rescue Efforts

According to a press release from the Jhang district administration, top officials including Commissioner Raja Jehangir Anwar, RPO Zeeshan Asghar, DC Ali Akbar Bhinder, and DPO Bilal Iftikhar Kiani are personally supervising the rescue mission in Ahmedpur Sial.

The statement confirmed that:

  • 51 boats from Rescue 1122

  • 22 boats from the Pakistan Army

  • 58 privately-owned large boats

are actively being used to evacuate stranded residents. Despite extremely challenging conditions, operations continued late into Wednesday night to save both people and livestock.

Relief and Medical Aid

The district administration added that medical teams are providing healthcare services in relief camps through the “Clinic on Wheels” programme, ensuring displaced families receive immediate assistance.

Authorities have urged residents in flood-prone areas to cooperate with rescue teams and move to designated safe zones as operations continue.
