Warning: Fake HBL App Targeting Pakistani Banking Customers on Facebook
A new online scam is targeting Pakistani banking customers by promoting a fake version of the Habib Bank Limited (HBL) app on Facebook. The fraudulent app, advertised as the “updated 2025 version,” is designed to steal sensitive banking information.
Although the Facebook ad has been removed, the malicious sign-up link remains active. The phishing site uses a different URL from HBL’s official website – remember, HBL’s genuine site is https://www.hbl.com/.
The fake website mimics HBL’s branding and even shows images of debit and credit cards. Victims are asked to enter:
-
Card number
-
CVV
-
Expiry date
-
Cardholder name
-
Mobile number
After submitting the details, the site falsely claims that the bank will contact users within 1–2 hours for OTP verification.
How to Stay Safe:
-
Do not download apps from social media ads or unknown links.
-
Use official sources only:
-
HBL website: https://www.hbl.com/
-
Verified HBL app on Google Play Store: HBL Mobile App
-
-
Report suspicious links to HBL and the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA).
-
Never share sensitive card details on unofficial websites.
-
HBL has not released a “2025 version” of its app. Always verify banking communications through official channels.
Stay vigilant and protect your banking information from online scams.
