Apple Watch to Launch Hypertension Detection Feature After FDA Approval
Apple is set to roll out a hypertension detection feature on its smartwatch lineup next week after receiving clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), according to a report by Bloomberg News.
How the New Feature Works
The tool will use data from the Apple Watch’s optical heart sensor to analyze how a user’s blood vessels respond to heartbeats over a 30-day period. While the feature will not identify every case of high blood pressure, Apple estimates it could alert more than one million users worldwide.
Global Availability
Apple confirmed the hypertension detection feature will be made available in 150 countries. It will be supported on the Apple Watch Series 9, Series 10, Series 11, as well as the premium Apple Watch Ultra 2 and Ultra 3 models.
Part of Apple’s Health Push
The announcement follows Apple’s September 9 event, where the company also introduced:
-
A built-in blood pressure monitor in its newest Apple Watch
-
The refreshed iPhone lineup, including the slimmer iPhone Air
The move highlights Apple’s continued push into health-focused technology, expanding beyond fitness tracking into more advanced medical monitoring tools.

Both Apple and the FDA have not yet responded to requests for comment on the development, according to Reuters.
