Health Services Academy Islamabad Recognized as Global Center of Excellence in Public Health

Health Services Academy Islamabad Named Global Public Health Center of Excellence

The Health Services Academy (HSA) in Islamabad has been recognized as one of only five Global Public Health Education Centers of Excellence worldwide by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC) Programme.

This prestigious recognition highlights HSAโ€™s leadership in public health education, research, and regional health initiatives.

Prof. Dr. Shahzad Ali Khan, Vice Chancellor of HSA, called the achievement a historic milestone for Pakistanโ€™s public health and medical education sector.

โ€œBeing named a Center of Excellence not only honors HSA but also reflects Pakistanโ€™s growing leadership in global public health. It positions us at the forefront of education, research, and policy coordination across CARECโ€™s 11 member countries,โ€ he said.

Boosting Regional Collaboration

The new Centers of Excellence network aims to strengthen collaboration among CAREC countries through advanced training, research opportunities, and aligned health standards. HSA will lead initiatives in joint research, professional training, and knowledge exchange, while also shaping policy recommendations and building regional healthcare workforce capacity.

Sofia Shakil, Director of ADBโ€™s Human and Social Development Sector Office, praised HSA:

โ€œThis designation reflects ADB and CARECโ€™s trust in Pakistanโ€™s ability to contribute effectively to regional and global health strategies. HSA will be pivotal in advancing CARECโ€™s health agenda and strengthening inclusive, resilient healthcare systems.โ€

Prof. Dr. Khan added that the recognition will unlock new opportunities for international collaborations, partnerships, and research funding, further cementing Pakistanโ€™s role in the global public health landscape.

โ€œThis is not just a success for HSAโ€”it is a moment of national pride, confirming Pakistanโ€™s readiness to lead in shaping the future of public health education globally,โ€ he concluded.
