Nooh Butt Set for International Comeback, Aims for Gold at World Championships in Florida
LAHORE: Pakistan’s weightlifting superstar Nooh Dastagir Butt is gearing up for a highly anticipated return to the international stage at the VIRUS Weightlifting Finals & UMWF World Championships, scheduled from December 3 to 6, 2025, in Daytona Beach, Florida, USA.
The 2022 Commonwealth Games champion, famously known as the “Hulk of Pakistan”, is determined to claim gold in what will be his first major international appearance in three years.
Return After Federation Dispute
Nooh’s comeback follows a long-running dispute with the Pakistan Weightlifting Federation (PWF), during which he focused on powerlifting and strongman competitions. Even away from Olympic lifting, he continued to bring pride to Pakistan, winning multiple international titles in Uzbekistan, South Africa, and beyond.
Thanks to the efforts of Madam Nuzhat and Hafiz Jibran Butt of the PWF, the issue has now been resolved, clearing the way for Nooh to once again represent Pakistan at the highest level.
Support and Training
Nooh credited Rd. Rizwan Aftab Ahmed, CEO of ACTIVIT and Director at National Hospital DHA Lahore, for providing full sponsorship of his training, nutrition, and medical needs. He said Rizwan’s support extends to his family as well, making his mission clearer than ever: “to win international gold medals for Pakistan.”
Currently training in Gujranwala under the guidance of his father and former weightlifter Ghulam Dastagir, Nooh is following an intense two-session daily routine. “My father is my biggest inspiration. His dream and mine is the same — to raise Pakistan’s flag on the world stage,” he shared.
Family’s Pride and Dedication
Nooh’s mother expressed her pride in his journey: “Our home feels like a training ground. His father never rests until Nooh finishes both sessions. As parents, our greatest joy will be to see him bring more international medals for Pakistan.”
Roadmap to Glory
After Florida, Nooh’s international roadmap includes the Commonwealth Games, the Asian Games, and ultimately a push toward global dominance in weightlifting. To further sharpen his skills, Rd. Rizwan has also arranged a post-tournament training camp in the USA, giving him access to world-class coaching and facilities.
Sharing his vision, Rizwan said: “I don’t just want medals — I want Nooh to leave a legacy that inspires future generations. My expectation is victory, nothing less. I want him to lift Pakistan’s flag on the biggest stages in the world.”
