October 29, 2025
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Technology Board (KPITB) and UN Women have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote women’s economic empowerment through digital inclusion in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The collaboration falls under the Digitalization for Women Economic Empowerment (D4WEE) project, funded by the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).
A Step Toward Digital Empowerment
This new partnership creates a strong framework between UN Women and KPITB to support women’s participation in the digital economy. The initiative aims to expand women’s access to digital skills, online platforms, and entrepreneurship opportunities in districts including Peshawar, Mardan, and Swabi.
Government’s Commitment to Digital Inclusion
During the signing ceremony, Secretary Science, Technology & IT Department Amjad Ali Khan praised ongoing efforts under the Digital KP Roadmap 2030, emphasizing that women are a key part of the province’s digital transformation. He reaffirmed the government’s full commitment to ensuring equal opportunities for women across all digital initiatives.
UN Women’s Support
UN Women Pakistan Country Representative Jamshed Kazi commended KPITB and the provincial government for their leadership, saying, “Women must be given equal opportunities to participate and thrive in the digital economy.”
This collaboration marks a major milestone in bridging the gender gap in technology, ensuring women in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa gain equal access to digital tools, training, and employment opportunities that drive long-term economic growth.
