Supply Disruption Affects Electric Bus Operations in Karachi

Electric bus services in Karachi have been partially disrupted after a technical fault affected the power supply at a key charging station used by the city’s electric bus fleet.

According to officials from the Peoples Bus Service, electricity at the Mehran Depot has remained unavailable for the past three days due to a technical issue. The disruption has impacted charging operations for electric buses operating from the facility.

Temporary Arrangements Made

In response to the situation, hybrid buses have been temporarily deployed on routes normally served by electric buses to ensure continued transport services for passengers.

The affected routes include:

  • EV-1: Malir Cantt to Sea View
  • EV-3: Malir Cantt to Numaish
  • R-1 (Pink Bus Service): Khokhrapar to Dockyard

All these routes are operated from the Mehran Depot, which serves as a central charging and maintenance facility for the electric fleet.

Possible Service Interruptions

Transport officials warned that if the power supply issue is not resolved soon, partial suspension of services on affected routes may become necessary.

They added that efforts are underway to restore electricity at the depot and minimize disruption for commuters.

Electric bus services are part of Karachi’s efforts to modernize urban transport and reduce environmental pollution through cleaner energy alternatives.
